Extruder Gearbox

General Description

Extruder Gearboxes are double reduction parallel shaft are available in horizontal andvertical models are used in single screw extruder machines. The gear units are capable to transmit the high torque required for pressurising and plasticising moulding materials. Also have capability of absorbing the high axial thrust load induced by the process, through built in spherical roller thrust bearing. The units can be offered in left hand (L.H) or right hand (R.H) configurations with horizontal and vertical mounting as per customer requirements.

Range of Extruder Gearboxes

An extruder gearbox is a mechanical device designed to transmit power from a motor to the screw in an extruder system, which is commonly used in plastic and rubber processing, as well as in the food industry. It plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and precise operation of the extruder by managing torque and rotational speed.

Functions
Types of Extruder Gearboxes
Applications

Input Shaft: Receives power from the motor.
Gears: Inside the gearbox, gears reduce the high-speed, low-torque input from the motor to a low-speed, high-torque output required to drive the extruder screw.
Output Shaft: Transmits the torque to the extruder screw, ensuring consistent material feeding through the extrusion process.
Bearings: Provide support and smooth rotation of the shafts and gears.
Lubrication System: Ensures that gears are properly lubricated for smooth operation and longevity.
Cooling System (optional): High-performance extruder gearboxes may include cooling systems to dissipate heat generated during operation.

Speed Reduction: Converts the high-speed rotation from the motor to the lower speeds needed for the screw’s movement in the extruder.
Torque Amplification: Provides the necessary torque for driving the material through the extrusion process.
Synchronization: In twin-screw extruders, the gearbox ensures the two screws are synchronized to prevent collisions.

Single-Screw Gearbox: Used in single-screw extruders, where one screw rotates to melt and push the material.

Plastic extrusion (pipes, sheets, films)
Plastics Compounding: Mixing fillers, additives, and polymers for plastic products.
Rubber extrusion
Food Processing: Extruding snacks, cereals, or pasta.
Pharmaceuticals: Processing medications, including granulation and extrusion.
Chemical Industry: Extruding chemicals and catalysts.
